Fine Arts Fest is Monday, June 4, 2012 at 6:30pm in the Christian Center. Our Pre-K through 4th grade students will share the music they have been learning this school year followed by the 5th-8th grade drama and choir students who will present a musical production! All 8th graders are also involved in this program!

Spring Upper Elementary Concert! Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 6:30pm in the Christian Center.

Includes Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Bands, and 5th-8th Grade Choir. The students have EARLIER arrival times to prepare. There is a “stay after school” option for band/choir members if they are willing to help with set-up, etc.

The seniors will take one more collection of reusable clothes and household items. We will be collecting items Monday, May 14, 2012 before 8:00am in the High School Parking Lot. Please bag your items and separate clothes and linens from other household goods.

Your donation could be Tax Deductible! Please ask a Student taking your donations for a form. This is your last opportunity this year to get rid of any unwanted items and simply drop them off with your student at School.

Social Studies Fair May 10

SOCIAL STUDIES FAIR–Our students have been busy preparing for this year’s Social Studies Fair. If you have never experienced the fair before, you have been missing out on the fun. There will be plenty to see and learn. Each classroom prepares a social studies-related project/display. Pre-Kindergarten through 4th grade will have displays in the classrooms/hallways. The 5th and 6th grade students will have state reports on display in the library along with foods representative of those states. The 7th and 8th graders will be giving presentations on various events in American history that include costumes and computer-generated visual aids. A schedule of speaking times will be posted. Finally, some of our international students will be present to share cultural information and foods from their home countries.

The Social Studies Fair is Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 6:30PM.

PLS Art Students Use Talents In Downtown Portland

Mary Yoder, the Portland Lutheran School art teacher, took several students with her on April 13 to assist with a mosaic sculpture outside of the Friendly House Community Center in downtown Portland. This opportunity for collaboration was found through Hands On Greater Portland, and many high school art students showed interest. While working on the mosaic sculpture, the students worked with artist Lynn Takata to chisel tiles, adhere new tile pieces, and add grout. The mosaic was completed last week and a dedication ceremony was held last Thursday. The finished piece can be viewed outside the community center at 1737 NW 26th Ave.
